How to play Queens

Place one crown in each row, column and colored region. Two crowns cannot touch, even at a corner. Use × to rule out a square, and follow the region borders as well as the rows.

  1. Every row needs exactly one crown.
  2. Every column needs exactly one crown.
  3. Every colored region needs exactly one crown.
  4. Crowns cannot touch along an edge or at a corner.
  5. Tap a square for ×, tap again for a crown, and tap once more to clear it. Drag across empty squares to mark several ×.

Worked example

EEBBAEEBBBCEEBBEEEDEEEEEE

Region A is the square at row 1, column 5. Put a crown there: that region has nowhere else for it.

Cross out the rest of row 1 and column 5. Row 2, column 4 is out too: it touches the crown at a corner.

Region C holds only row 3, column 1. Region D holds only row 4, column 4. With those crowns placed, row 2 has one square left, column 3. The last crown goes in row 5, column 2.

Queens difficulty levels

Easy5×5: follow the crown counts and the no-touching rule.
Medium6×6: use rows, columns and regions together to rule out squares.
Hard8×8: some moves need you to test a placement and find which rule it would break.
