How to play Futoshiki
Futoshiki adds comparison signs to a number grid. On a 4×4 board, each row and column needs the numbers 1 to 4 once each. A 5×5 board uses 1 to 5; a 6×6 board uses 1 to 6. The signs give you extra information about neighboring squares. There are no Sudoku boxes.
- Use each number from 1 to the board size once in every row and column.
- Keep the printed numbers in place. Fill the empty squares.
- Follow every comparison sign. Its pointed end faces the smaller number; its open end faces the larger number.
Futoshiki difficulty levels
| Easy | Easy: 4×4. Row, column and comparison deductions are enough. |
|---|---|
| Medium | Medium: 5×5. You also need to find the only square in a row or column that can hold a number. |
| Hard | Hard: 6×6. At least one pair deduction is needed as well. |
Futoshiki tips
- Look for chains of comparisons. Three increasing squares need three different numbers, so their possible values narrow down.
- Check both the row and column before filling a square. A number that fits one may already appear in the other.
- Use Notes to keep possible numbers in a square. If two squares in one row or column can only hold the same two numbers, those numbers are reserved for that pair.

Futoshiki FAQ
Is Futoshiki the same as Sudoku?
Both use numbers without repeats in rows and columns. Futoshiki has comparison signs instead of Sudoku boxes.
What do the signs mean?
The pointed end faces the smaller number. For example, 2 < 4 and 4 > 2 are both correct. For a vertical sign, use the same rule between the square above and the square below.
Can I keep playing after the daily puzzle?
Yes. Unlimited gives you another board at your chosen level. You can also return to earlier daily boards in the archive.
Will my progress be saved?
This browser saves your unfinished puzzle and statistics. Return in the same browser to continue. Clearing its site data removes those records; they do not sync between devices.
What does Hint do?
Hint fills a number and shows the deductions behind it. If an entry makes the puzzle impossible, Hint clears it and explains why. Undo reverses the change.
